Getting to know Park Lane!

Park Lane Chapel

22 Sep 2022

Sarah Gould, our social media & website officer, visited Park Lane Chapel this morning on Thursday 22nd September.

Here are some of her reflections on the place, its people, history & activities.

“One of the first things I noticed at the chapel was its warmth. The people are all so smiley and welcoming! Straight away, I was brought a coffee and offered some jam on toast. A good group were in attendance at the Thursday Coffee Morning, all nattering away happily.

Pat (whose great grandparents were married at Park Lane Chapel) showed me around the colourful room where they hold the Children’s Group. I was excited to learn about the room’s rich heritage (something I’m sure to share about in future articles). I admired the beautiful Summer artwork, made by the children who attend. Pat told me she’d been running the group since 1983!

Then, the lovely Brian showed me the chapel. It is dainty and absolutely beautiful. The perfect location for an intimate and personal wedding or naming ceremony.

I was lucky to enjoy a sunflower and yellow rose Harvest-themed flower arrangement, put together by a very talented (and oh so modest) Bet.

I learnt all about the late Harry, who was their toffee eating organist for 58 years! (He didn’t take a penny for it either.)

The chapel is very active, with loads of community events coming up. I’ll be sharing details about the Brass Band Concert (in Harry’s honour), the Christmas Fayre and the MacMillan Coffee Morning happening soon. Watch this space!

Thank you for having me Park Lane! I look forward to the next visit…”
