Our Role

We are a registered charity, formed in 1860 as the Liverpool & District Missionary Association.

Now as the Merseyside & District Missionary Association (MDMA) our purpose remains much the same - to help support and strengthen the area's churches, fellowships and related groups which are within the scope of the General Assembly of Unitarian and Free Christian Churches; also to help establish new ones, and to extend the influence of religious teaching and practical religion in the district.

The Association's Council meets quarterly to share experience, advance its objects and where appropriate make financial grants. The Council consists of its Officers with two representatives from each congregation, one from each fellowship, group or affiliated society and the Ministers and Lay Pastors in charge of the congregations with any other Ministers on the General Assembly Roll who live within the area. An Executive Council member usually attends forming a helpful link with the General Assembly.

The Association is a vehicle for collaboration between the congregations, and district activities take place from time to time including, for example, workshops for young people. Distributed three times a year to every congregation member in the District, Mersey News gives further information about forthcoming events in the district.
